How to get Polish citizenship

Citizenship is the last step of legalisation. We help you choose the route (recognition by the Voivode or a grant by the President), check your periods of stay and prepare the application.

Recognition as a Polish citizen

You apply to the Voivode. Main options: 3 years on permanent or EU long-term residence with stable income and housing; 2 years if married to a Polish citizen for at least 3 years; 1 year if permanent residence was granted via the Karta Polaka or Polish origin; 10 years of legal stay in the general route. A B1 certificate is required in every case.

Grant by the President

There are no formal residence requirements — the President decides at their discretion. Time in Poland, integration, language and family are taken into account. There is no appeal.

Fees have risen

Since 1 August 2025 the recognition fee is 1000 zł (previously 219 zł) and an application to the President costs 1669 zł. That's why it pays to file correctly the first time.

Timing in practice

By law the Voivode should decide within 6 months, but in practice it often takes longer. If it drags on, we help with a ponaglenie.

How we help

We count your time across all cards, check income and housing, advise on preparing for B1, fill in the application in Polish and collect the documents.
