Permanent residence with the Karta Polaka

Karta Polaka holders can apply right after moving to Poland with the intention to settle. It's the fastest route to indefinite status.

Through marriage to a Polish citizen

You need at least 3 years of marriage and 2 years of continuous stay in Poland on temporary residence before applying.

EU long-term resident

You need at least 5 years of continuous legal stay. Breaks may not exceed 6 months at a time or 10 months in total. You also need stable income, insurance and a Polish B1 language certificate.

What the status gives you

An indefinite right to live and work in Poland, and for EU residents, easier moves to other EU countries. It is also a step towards citizenship.

How filing works

Since 27 April 2026 applications are filed online only, through MOS. The office then calls you in for fingerprints. While the case is pending, your stay is legal if you filed on time.
